Royal Flush

I took this picture of my backyard a few evenings before Christmas.  This place is a haven for me, with my hen houses and colorful chickens, the rabbit pens where I listen to my bunnies munching on greens, and my raised bed gardens where I can get my hands in the dirt and harvest some good homegrown food!
This sunset over my special place just begged to be painted!

A Little Christmas Message

Christmas painting #5
"Angel Voices"
3.5" x 5" mini
Oil on stretched canvas
I love walking out onto my deck in the stillness of a calm winter night near Christmas time. I imagine angels being all around singing and playing their instruments. just as it might have been on the night of our Savior's birth. What a joyful time that must have been!

This little painting went to its new home today!

Biloxi-Gulfport Beach Scene (with artist license :)

 "Tranquility"
10" x 20"

This scene is from a reference photo and a quick painting sketch I did last year on my RV trip. Biloxi MS is where my eldest daughter was born. I wanted to re-visit the beach I used to visit when she was a wee baby. As she loves the water and beaches I decided to do this peaceful scene to hang in her coastal-color theme bedroom.

Last of the Summer Painting

Another trip to Fisherman's Cove yielded about 75% of this painting. The weather was so nice but started to get chilly late afternoon, I brought it home and finished in the studio. At least I think it is finished for now. I'll have to think about it .....

Independence Day Celebration, an Original Oil Painting by Rebecca Jennings

I painted this as a tribute to truck drivers everywhere, no matter if its a bread truck, gasoline, log truck, or freight. What would we do if the trucks ceased to roll. Our lives as we know them would stop suddenly. Produce and canned goods, clothing and hardware, would all disappear from the shelves of our favorite stores. We owe these drivers a debt of gratitude! They have a big part in keeping our United States of America moving forward!
"Still Rollin', The Red, White and Blue!"
 8" x 10"  Oil on Canvas Panel
Sold!

This painting was inspired by a scene at a truck stop where I stopped on my way home from winter vacation this last spring. There they were, lined up right in front of me. My heart jumped, as the memories came flooding back of my late husband and I driving team, hauling military freight after 9-11. It was our privilege to serve our country in this way!

Sunrise Suprise, an Original Oil Painting by Rebecca Jennings

"Early Sunrise Surprise"

A quick sketch of the pond behind a roadside rest in east Texas. Te sun was just coming up and casting beautiful beams of light on the reeds beside the pond. Birds were singing and ducks were swimming on the far side. I plan to make a larger version of this rendering.

Snow Moon -Feb 4, 2015

Have you heard of the "snow moon"? I hadn't until this year. It is the first full moon in February.
My daughter took this photo from her upstairs window about 4 am. As I am traveling, I of course missed the beautiful scene, but not the deep snow that has come since then!

Day 28-29-30 30 Paintings/ 30 Days Painting Challenge

Day 28 -  I love the desert and find it so very peaceful there. I will be heading that way very soon, and can hardly wait to be back there again!
"Desert Campfire"
4" x 4" mini, oil on canvas panel

Day 29 - Meanwhile, I captured these birds through my window on my phone camera a couple mornings ago. They were drinking and playing in the water left by recent rains. I watched their antics for a time as they went to the water and back again. It doesn't take much to make me laugh.
"You Lookin' at Me?"
4" x 4" mini, oil on canvas panel

Day 30 - This painting is from a photo taken of my RV 2 yrs ago on my last journey west. My intention was to head that way soon as this challenge was finished but it seems the Lord has other plans for me and I will have to forgo that journey for another year.
"Deserts of Ajo"

I'm finished!! This challenge helped me learn several things about painting and about myself.

Day 25-26-27 30 Paintings/ 30 Days Painting Challenge

Day 25 - My favorite snack is apples with peanut butter.
It's a great "get-over-the-I-need-dessert" substitute; a good-for-you protein and energy filler!
I enjoyed painting the different colors in this Gala apple!
"Gala Apple"
4" x 4" mini, oil on canvas panel

Day 26  - This scene is at the top of the hill from the Camp Huaco Springs campground. I would drive up there for signal to make phone calls. This is also where I saw the road runner.
"Tree Grove, Texas Hill Country"
4" x 4" oil on canvas panel

Day 27 - This is probably my most favorite of the flower world. These are some I grew while living in Kentucky. As these giant beauties follow the path of the sun, they stand as a reminder to me that the best path in life is to........

Day 22-23-24 30 Paintings/ 30 Days Painting Challenge

Day 22 - This is one of the first critters that greeted me at my new home in Pennsylvania a few years ago and I have been wanting to do his "portrait" since then. This painting challenge has been good for me in that it spurs me on. Only 8 more to go!
"Springtime Chippy"
4" x 4" mini, oil on canvas panel

Day 23 -  We all need a little desert from time to time. I am treating myself today! Not by eating it , but by painting it. It just looked so luscious..... I could not resist!
"Yogurt, Berries, and Chocolate, Oh My!"
4" x 4" mini, oil on canvas panel

Day 24  - Coconut oil is all the rage these days! I saw an article on "50 Uses for Coconut Oil,
which gave me the inspiration for today's painting.

Day 19-20-21 30 Paintings/ 30 Days Painting Challenge

Day 19 -  I snapped a couple photos of these two at the Port Aransas beach in December. There were many people there enjoying the sunshine, but this scene captured my heart. It looked to me like a Grandfather and Grandson out to enjoy the day together. This was my second attempt at figures. My intent was to get the information down. I plan on a larger, truer painting later on.
"Pals"
4" x 4" mini, oil

This is one of my favorite wildflowers, the Wild Geranium. I like them so much I once embroidered them on a set of lavender sheets and pillowcases.
"Flowers of the Field"
4" x 4" mini, oil

Day 21 - A scene from on the Niagara River while visiting my sister last fall. The sun was going down behind clouds, casting beautiful colors on the water.

Thanks for viewing my paintings!

Day 16-17-18

Day 16 - After today's events, my paint-box made me smile as I pulled it out. This painting is inspired by last night's sunset at Camp Huaco Springs near New Braunfels, TX.
"Winter Sunset - Texas Hill Country"
4" x 4" mini, oil on canvas panel

Day 17-  I was fortunate to see this funny little bird in a field late afternoon a couple days ago. I didn't know what it was until I saw it in action. The comical movements cheered my day!
 "Roadrunner"
4" x 4" mini, oil on canvas

Day 18 - Running a little behind... But still going! What a challenge this one was!
I was determined to try this as I love  icicles! My eldest daughter sent me this photo taken out her window a couple mornings ago. It reminded me of a song I remembered from many years ago.

Day 13-14-15 30 Paintings/ 30 Days Painting Challenge

Day 13 - More wonderful wildflowers! I love these bluish beauties!
If they could be transplanted more readily , I would have them in my gardens!
"Ferns and Chicory"
4" x 4" mini

Day 14 - I do indeed "wonder" how long the deep snows will last .
This is a painting of my own barn at my home in PA. I was just a tad bit homesick as I painted this. I love the snow, but my body does not put up with the cold weather very well.
"Winter 'Wonder'- Land"
4" x 4" mini

Day 15 - Sometimes life gets us down.
Then we just need to wait where we're at till the way shows clear.
In the mean time it can feel like this little boat.

Days 10-11-12 Painting Challenge, 30 Paintings / 30 Days

As I had not planned to do this challenge because of traveling, most of these paintings are a result of day by day happenings, but are all original from my set-ups or photos.
Day 10 - The socks I have been knitting were put on the back burner so I could concentrate on painting. They will be waiting when the challenge is completed.

"Baby, It's Cold Outside"
4" x 4" mini

Day 11 - I saw this little ice cream shop as I was leaving Port Aransas TX one day. Now, ice cream is very hard for me to pass up, and I felt no need to do so that day! Such a cute place, with brightly painted tables and benches placed on the deck to sit and enjoy your ice cream while watching the sea gulls come and go.
"Screamin' For Ice Cream!"
4" x 4", mini

Day 12 - I had been a grump the last couple days and realized I was out of my "happy fruit" so I made a trip to the local W*M store and picked up some groceries. What a difference that made!

Day 9 - Painting Challenge, 30 Paintings / 30 Days

It was getting on towards evening when I was leaving Port Aransas, but I stopped for one last photo as a Sea Gull sat on this post and posed for me; probably looking for the last meal of the day.

Day 8 - Painting Challenge, 30 Paintings / 30 Days

I was just taking a leisurely stroll along the Guadalupe River that runs alongside the campground where I am presently, when this friendly duck swam close to the bank and I was able to get some good photos of her.. This one was a joy to paint!

Day 7 - Painting Challenge, 30 Paintings / 30 Days

I have been away all winter so far, and do miss painting the snow scenes, so I went through my old photos and found this one from last year. This is a phenomena that happens when the winter conditions are just right. This was from a photo of a field just past my neighbor's home last winter. These are called snow bales, snow rolls or snow curls depending on where you heard about them.

Day 6 - Painting Challenge, 30 Paintings / 30 Days

I saw several donkeys in fields while visiting in Mississippi.
This baby had an amazingly sweet face!
"Baby Face"
4" x 4" mini, oil on canvas

This challenge is indeed"challenging", as I need also to take care of the running of my motorhome and all it entails. Every night I need to move things up front so I can go to bed. Then in the morning I move things back so I can paint' But I am enjoying all the different sights I am seeing  :)

Day 5 - Painting Challenge, 30 Paintings / 30 Days

This painting was inspired by an incident on a cold, wet, dreary day recently when I was parked at a truckstop. The office to the campground I wanted to go to was closed. That week, everything that could go wrong had gone wrong. I took Izzy out for a walk along the field of dead grasses. Then I spotted these pretty bright yellow flowers in the midst of all that deadness.
 The sight immediately cheered me.

Day 4 - Painting Challenge, 30Paintings / 30 Days

"Texas Hill Country"
4" x 4" mini, oil on canvas

After leaving Port Aransas I headed west toward New Braunfels, TX. The terrain west of NB changed drastically and I wanted to capture a hint of it on canvas. In stead of flat farm land, the hills appear; there are fossil  rocks, shorter bushier trees and cacti.

Day 3 - Painting Challenge 30 Paintings / 30 Days

The inspiration for this painting came from visiting my daughter's church in Mississippi. It was so refreshing to go to a church where they actually did so much good in the community, working with homeless, drug addicts, and the very poor. They don't mince words, but if you really want and need help they go all out to do as Jesus did when He walked this earth.

Happy New Year to everyone!
A couple days ago I became aware of another 30 Paintings / 30 Days Challenge. Although I am traveling this winter again, I decided to go ahead and give it a try. I am not, however, linking in to the official challenge as I often do not have access to internet. But I decided to do it for myself anyway.

"Left - Overs"
4" x 4" Mini oil on canvas board

All my paintings for this challenge will be done on this size.
Thanks for stopping by!
