My Favorite things #2 - Childhood Memories

A detailed image of this painting.....
Oh, the memories of iced-up windows, with beautiful frosted patterns and glittering ice crystals....... I can still remember the feel of it! We were most fortunate, back in the days of single-paned windows. When it was bitter cold outside yet toasty warm inside, it was said that Jack Frost would pay a visit during the night and leave behind his handy-work.......   Few in our times have the opportunity to experience such deliciousness!

My Favorite Things #1, an Original Oil painting by Rebecca Jennings

I have decided to do a series of "My Favorite Things", where memories of childhood days are the primary focus. The strings attached are not only strings of the skates, but of the strings of my heart tied to my childhood. Come along with me on my journey into the carefree days of a past, all-but-forgotten way of life.  Together we will reminisce and recreate happy times.

These  old skates hanging on a nail on the covered porch wall remind me of the kids of our little town meeting at Myers' pond to go skating several times during the winter. The bigger boys would shovel any new-fallen snow off the ice. Sometimes there would be a wood fire far back on the bank to warm our hands by. It was a regular meeting place for all the neighborhood, kids and adults alike.

Thanks for stopping by to view my painting! Some of these paintings are for sale. I also do commissions on a regular basis. Just email me for details.

Day 13-14-15 30 Paintings/ 30 Days Painting Challenge

Day 13 - More wonderful wildflowers! I love these bluish beauties!
If they could be transplanted more readily , I would have them in my gardens!
"Ferns and Chicory"
4" x 4" mini

Day 14 - I do indeed "wonder" how long the deep snows will last .
This is a painting of my own barn at my home in PA. I was just a tad bit homesick as I painted this. I love the snow, but my body does not put up with the cold weather very well.

Day 15 - Sometimes life gets us down.
Then we just need to wait where we're at till the way shows clear.
In the mean time it can feel like this little boat.

Day 7 - Painting Challenge, 30 Paintings / 30 Days

I have been away all winter so far, and do miss painting the snow scenes, so I went through my old photos and found this one from last year. This is a phenomena that happens when the winter conditions are just right. This was from a photo of a field just past my neighbor's home last winter. These are called snow bales, snow rolls or snow curls depending on where you heard about them.

Painting outside today

I was so glad it warmed up enough to get outside to paint today. It was 17* when I left the house and was out about one and a half hrs. I did the finishing touches at home this afternoon. I love how the wild vines climb up the fence in the summer to be the perfect winter decoration!

Mountain Chickadee

I had intended to take part in Gary Keimig's Wilderness Art Challenge for some time now, so while the super bowl was on yesterday I decided to try this. I did change the background, and don't know if that is acceptable but I sent it in anyway. It is a good learning tool to see a number of artists all painting the same subject. We can learn from each other.

Snow, Water and Ice study-2 "Blue Ice"

This is my 3rd Winter painting since the new year, and I thought I should get it done, as I hear we are supposed to have an early spring! Another photo taken by my daughter at Fisherman's Cove near Franklin, PA was the reference for this painting.

Snow, Water and Ice study- Reposted

I have been working on some winter weather scenes. My daughter took this photo at Fisherman's Cove near Franklin, PA, and I just had to try it. I know rocks are very un-interesting to some people but I love the colors that come from water-covered ones! I tried to portray the feel of a day when the snow and ice are just starting to melt.

Cold and Snowy in Kentucky!

"Snowy Winter Morning in Kentucky"
8 x 10 oil on stretched canvas
(NFS)
The deer have been coming up near the big Oak tree in our pasture early in the mornings looking for acorns, then move on into the field near our neighbor's pond which has been partly covered with ice. The deer seem so tame and friendly... until we step outside.
The broom-sage in the back field gives off a lovely orangish glow in the early morning.
