A Little Painting of my Early RV Life

I was driving between MS and Texas, only a few hours away from my destination, when I got caught in a huge storm on the interstate, I knew I needed to pull off the road. Visibility was poor. I followed 2 tractor-trailers to an off ramp, knowing that they likely knew of a sfe place to park, I was not disappointed as they pulled into a large empty gravel lot and stopped. I followed them in and parked my motorhome as well, leaving plenty of space between us. As I sat there watching the rain pour down , running down the paved roads and spilling into the dirt lot, and the wind-blown trees leaning I knew I had made the right choice. I decided to get out my paint and do a quick study of the storm. I think I had interpreted very well what was happening for the next few hours.

Wetlands near Texarkana, Texas

On a beautiful sunny day, in an unknown (to me) area, I passed this scene on a frontage road as I headed north on I-30 on my way to pick up a few groceries. It was so striking I took the next exit and turned to double back wanting to get a shot of this gorgeousness! I love wetlands anywhere, and with the puffy white clouds showing reflections in the water, the sun brightening the colored leaves, and the drying grasses, it was a scene I just could not pass up!I took a few pictures and after purchasing my needed items I headed back to get out my paints and see if I could do the scene justice....

My Favorite Things #3, An Original Oil painting by Rebecca Jennings

This spinning wheel was a gift to me from my husband just months before he died. I loved the smooth wood of the wheel and the paddle. The spinner would sit at the right side and work the paddle with their feet to make the wheel go at a smooth, steady speed. The wool would be fed carefully onto the wheel, go full circle and, at the practiced touch of the spinner's hands, come out the other side as yarn to be knitted into warm clothes or woven into blankets.

This wheel is now in the possession of my eldest daughter who has become a fiber artist in her own right. This painting is a gift to her.

Last of the Summer Painting

Another trip to Fisherman's Cove yielded about 75% of this painting. The weather was so nice but started to get chilly late afternoon, I brought it home and finished in the studio. At least I think it is finished for now. I'll have to think about it .....

Christmas Celebration - Last Painting of 2014

Although I spent my Christmas at Port Aransas, TX, and was thoroughly enjoying the sights there I wanted to paint something in celebration of  the Christmas season and the birth of my Lord and Savior, even if it was little. This would make a cute little painting to hang in my motorhome.

My theme is centered on my travels this winter in my 1996 29' Winnebago RV. Improving and diversifying my painting subjects has been one of the main goals of my travels. My goals for this challenge are to pick up speed in my painting, and be freer in my use of color and brushwork.

My porch light had burned out on my RV, and a couple nights ago I missed the step in the dark. I was not hurt, but it was a good reminder to get a replacement bulb installed. ( it uses those auto tail-light bulbs) This painting is also a reminder to" always let our light shine"!

Days of Autumn

Our visit to a Mennonite farm a couple evenings ago inspired the idea for this painting. It was the perfect end to a beautiful sunny day. The air was growing cooler as the rush of the work day was winding down.

The old broom leaning against the porch wall near a bench where they remove their boots before entering the house, seemed to be saying it was ready for it's fall job of sweeping the leaves.

Remembering Grandma....

A Mother's Day tribute

My Grandma Miller has been a major inspiration and influence in my life. So for this recent Mother's Day I am high-lighting her life through her paintings.

While visiting my Aunt D, Uncle B, and cousins in Pennsylvania, I was able to get some photos of Grandma's paintings. These were done in the late 1950's and 60's.

Still Life... Grandma also did knitting, tatting and crochet....

An airplane painting for my Uncle Bill, who flew in the Navy. He also built his own airplane and did some flying demonstrations at the airfield in Titusville, PA.

Man in a Park

These paintings are from scenes from their travels across the states. she loved mountain scenes.

This one is from Lake Tahoe

From what I have been able to find recently, I believe this was a painting from a photo in Yosemite Nat'l Park.

A couple more still lifes....

After Grandpa retired from his job in CA, they moved back east to be near us. Grandma didn't start painting til she was in her 60's. While she painted, Grandpa sat and tinkered with his watch and clock repair. There are many, many more paintings she had done which are distributed out among the many children and grandchildren. These are the ones I was able to track down during my visit back to PA.
