My Favorite Things #1, an Original Oil painting by Rebecca Jennings

I have decided to do a series of "My Favorite Things", where memories of childhood days are the primary focus. The strings attached are not only strings of the skates, but of the strings of my heart tied to my childhood. Come along with me on my journey into the carefree days of a past, all-but-forgotten way of life.  Together we will reminisce and recreate happy times.

These  old skates hanging on a nail on the covered porch wall remind me of the kids of our little town meeting at Myers' pond to go skating several times during the winter. The bigger boys would shovel any new-fallen snow off the ice. Sometimes there would be a wood fire far back on the bank to warm our hands by. It was a regular meeting place for all the neighborhood, kids and adults alike.

Thanks for stopping by to view my painting! Some of these paintings are for sale. I also do commissions on a regular basis. Just email me for details.

Royal Flush

I took this picture of my backyard a few evenings before Christmas.  This place is a haven for me, with my hen houses and colorful chickens, the rabbit pens where I listen to my bunnies munching on greens, and my raised bed gardens where I can get my hands in the dirt and harvest some good homegrown food!
This sunset over my special place just begged to be painted!

A Little Christmas Message

Christmas painting #5
"Angel Voices"
3.5" x 5" mini
Oil on stretched canvas
I love walking out onto my deck in the stillness of a calm winter night near Christmas time. I imagine angels being all around singing and playing their instruments. just as it might have been on the night of our Savior's birth. What a joyful time that must have been!

This little painting went to its new home today!

Biloxi-Gulfport Beach Scene (with artist license :)

 "Tranquility"
10" x 20"

This scene is from a reference photo and a quick painting sketch I did last year on my RV trip. Biloxi MS is where my eldest daughter was born. I wanted to re-visit the beach I used to visit when she was a wee baby. As she loves the water and beaches I decided to do this peaceful scene to hang in her coastal-color theme bedroom.

Last of the Summer Painting

Another trip to Fisherman's Cove yielded about 75% of this painting. The weather was so nice but started to get chilly late afternoon, I brought it home and finished in the studio. At least I think it is finished for now. I'll have to think about it .....

Independence Day Celebration, an Original Oil Painting by Rebecca Jennings

I painted this as a tribute to truck drivers everywhere, no matter if its a bread truck, gasoline, log truck, or freight. What would we do if the trucks ceased to roll. Our lives as we know them would stop suddenly. Produce and canned goods, clothing and hardware, would all disappear from the shelves of our favorite stores. We owe these drivers a debt of gratitude! They have a big part in keeping our United States of America moving forward!

This painting was inspired by a scene at a truck stop where I stopped on my way home from winter vacation this last spring. There they were, lined up right in front of me. My heart jumped, as the memories came flooding back of my late husband and I driving team, hauling military freight after 9-11. It was our privilege to serve our country in this way!
