Desert Nocturne

Although I was not able to complete my 30 paintings in 30 days challenge, I will likely try again later on. I had to leave the desert early as I had come down with a severe case of food poisoning. I did make it back to Tucson where I finished recuperating. Fortunately, I was able to paint this scene the day before getting sick.

"Moonlit Desert Near the Mountains of Ajo"
8" x 10' Oil on Canvas
(a "through-the-window" painting)

Boondock camping in the desert near Ajo, Arizona, I awoke early one morning and could not get back to sleep. The moon was very bright and I was enjoying the peacefulness outside my rv window. There is a gigantic cross lit every night on the mountain over the little town of Ajo. It happened to be in perfect view at 3 am that morning. I captured this scene by using my little 4" flashlight to look at my paint and canvas. I had such fun painting this one!

  1. How cool to paint in that way! I'll bet you could not wait to see it at daybreak. Sorry that you got sick though. That could not have been fun.

  2. I hope you are feeling fine by now. I think 30 anything in 30 days might be a pretty big challenge ... even going out and getting one good photograph! Your painting is great and worth more than one in quality.
